Fire Safety Policy
1. Introduction
At Spiral Freerun CIC, ensuring the safety of our staff, students, and visitors is our highest priority. This Fire Safety Policy outlines our commitment to maintaining fire safety measures in compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, as well as our internal protocols. All staff are required to adhere to this policy to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
2. Purpose
The purpose of this Fire Safety Policy is to:
- Minimize the risk of fire-related incidents.
- Ensure clear procedures are in place for fire prevention, evacuation, and emergency response.
- Outline the responsibilities of staff and management in maintaining fire safety.
3. Responsibilities
- CEO/Fire Safety Officer (Luke Brown) is responsible for ensuring that fire safety measures are implemented, maintained, and regularly reviewed.
- All Staff Members are responsible for adhering to fire safety procedures, participating in fire drills, and reporting hazards.
- Fire Wardens are designated individuals responsible for overseeing evacuation procedures and ensuring all occupants exit safely during an emergency.
4. Fire Risk Assessment
A comprehensive fire risk assessment is carried out annually, and after any significant changes to the premises or fire systems. The assessment includes:
- Identification of potential fire hazards (e.g., electrical equipment, flammable materials).
- Assessment of individuals at risk, including children and vulnerable persons.
- Regular review of fire safety systems such as fire alarms, extinguishers, and emergency lighting.
5. Fire Prevention Measures
To minimize fire risk, Spiral Freerun CIC has implemented the following preventive measures:
- Daily Checks: Fire exits and escape routes are checked daily to ensure they are clear of obstructions.
- Equipment Maintenance: All electrical devices, fire extinguishers, and alarm systems are maintained regularly, with records kept of all inspections.
- Prohibited Items: Flammable materials (e.g., gas canisters) are strictly prohibited in parkour facilities unless required for maintenance under strict supervision.
- Waste Disposal: Rubbish and waste materials are removed daily to prevent the accumulation of flammable substances.
6. Fire Safety Equipment
The following fire safety equipment is maintained within the premises:
- Fire Alarms: Installed throughout the building and linked to the landlord’s central system. Alarms are tested weekly.
- Fire Extinguishers: Multiple extinguishers are located throughout the premises, suitable for different types of fires (e.g., electrical, combustible).
- Emergency Lighting: Installed at key points to illuminate escape routes in the event of a power failure.
7. Emergency Procedures
7.1. Evacuation Procedure
- Sounding the Alarm: In the event of a fire, the nearest fire alarm should be activated to alert all individuals in the facility.
- Calling Emergency Services: Once the fire alarm has been activated, call 999 to alert the fire and rescue service. This can also be done through the central monitoring system linked to the fire alarm.
- Evacuation:
- All individuals must exit the building immediately using the nearest fire exit, following the posted signage. Do not use elevators.
- Fire wardens will assist in guiding individuals and ensuring no one is left behind.
- Staff must ensure that all students, parents, and visitors are safely evacuated.
- Assembly Point: All individuals should proceed to the designated fire assembly point located at Mayes Yard, as indicated by fire safety signage.
- Roll Call: Fire wardens will conduct a roll call at the assembly point to ensure everyone is accounted for.
7.2. Handling Serious Injuries
- In the case of an injury during evacuation, prioritize removing the injured person from danger and provide immediate first aid.
- Call emergency services for medical assistance if required.
8. Fire Drills and Training
- Fire Drills: Fire drills are conducted every six months to ensure that staff and students are familiar with evacuation procedures. The results of these drills are recorded and reviewed to identify areas for improvement.
- Staff Training: All staff members receive fire safety training upon joining the organization, which includes:
- Understanding the use of fire extinguishers.
- Emergency evacuation procedures.
- Familiarity with the location of fire exits, alarms, and assembly points.
- Fire Wardens: Designated fire wardens receive additional training on managing evacuations and performing roll calls.
9. Signage and Communication
- Fire Exit Signs: Fire exit routes are clearly marked with signage visible throughout the premises.
- Fire Extinguisher Locations: Each fire extinguisher location is clearly marked, with instructions on proper use.
- Emergency Contact Information: Fire safety contact details, including the Fire Safety Officer’s number and emergency services information, are posted in common areas.
10. Review and Maintenance
- Annual Review: This fire safety policy and the accompanying risk assessment are reviewed annually or after any major changes to the premises, equipment, or fire safety systems.
- Incident Reporting: Any fire-related incidents or drills are reported to the Fire Safety Officer, who is responsible for documenting the event and suggesting any necessary procedural updates.
